Fail Whale!

Fail Whale!

Fail Whale!

I am so in love with this thing. I never thought I’d be this in love with failure. But this is the cute kind of failure. Associated with a wonderful little service (that I never thought I’d evangelize for… but apparently I am) with an equally adorable little name: Twitter. I think I’ve been using it for a bit over a year, possibly nearly 2. I remember live tweeting from the US Open (Tennis) back in 2007. (Much to the distaste of what few followers I had back then) So I must have been using Twitter prior to then.

Back before it was cool, and we had tech-geeks such as Robert Scoble, Guy Kawasaki, and Jason Calacanis all over the place — free to follow. Said geeks also posted quite a bit — think in excess of 50 tweets just during the work day — making following them a bit of a burden. Especially if you had turned device (meaning my phone) updates on. Thank god for unlimited texting plans. I no longer have device updates on for Scoble, but that doesn’t mean I don’t check the web version occasionally to see what he’s venting/evangelizing about now. Nowadays, the everyperson has Twitter. And celebrities outside of the tech-geek (but not necessarily outside of the geek world) universe have been creating wildly popular accounts: Ashton Kutcher, Felicia Day, and Nathan Fillion. The latter two having more of a geeky following I think, than the first.

Ashton’s recently been involved in a bit of friendly-follower-competition with the CNN Breaking News feed. To see who could get to 1 million followers first. For the record, I chose the CNN side. But Ashton won in the end, overtaking CNN shortly before midnight. Oh well. He passed the 1 million mark 30 minutes before CNN did. Celebrity over news.

Mm.

I started with failure, and I ended up with celebrity. Go figure.

Want to know who I follow? List coming soon.
